Editorial Reviews:

Get cordless handset convenience when you use Skype! Now you don't have to sit in front of your computer when you want to talk to your friends. The Linksys Cordless Internet Telephony Kit comes with the Handset and its charger, and a USB Base Station that plugs into your computer. With the included Skype program running on your PC, the Handset can read and display your contact list on its built-in illuminated display. Just choose who you want to talk to from the menu, press a button, and get ready to talk.Of course, the Handset supports SkypeOut dialing as well as your Skype contact list. It rings when you have a Skype or SkypeIn call coming in, and shows the caller's ID on the screen. The Handset also supports call waiting and Skype's optional Voicemail service. When you're on a call, you can hit the Mute button for privacy, or use the speakerphone function to leteveryone join in. You can even use the phone as an intercom - each Base Station supports up to four Handsets. In short, the Linksys Cordless Internet Telephony Kit gives you all the functionality of a regular phone, through Skype. You'll get the convenience of a cordless phone and all its features, plus the high-quality voice reception that you get from Skype on your PC, without being tied to your computer.

Summary: Did not work properly
Comment: The CIT200 Cordless Interned Telephony Kit for Skype did not work, is not supported by Linksys, and in my opinion, should not be sold. Zero stars!

I should have paid more attention to all the negative reviews out there but thought that with my excellent technical knowledge, I could get the product to work.

Summary: Dropped calls. More dropped calls. Return.
Comment: Linksys tried, you have to hand it to them. They even made the phone look like a regular phone.

Skype, however, does NOT support wireless phones. Every single wireless phone I've tried for Skype has dropped the calls. EVERY single one of them! Every call, you're mid-sentence, and can't go further. The wireless function is simply not supported by Skype, and Linksys won't be able to support you for that very reason.

Verdict: get a USB phone for Skype, like the FRee1 from IPEVO. They are the #1 in Certified Skype phones for a good reason... mac compatible, great echo cancelation, you can travel with it (reliable and sturdy), and they have great customer service (which Skype won't give you, so you have to make sure the manufacturer does)

Summary: Reasonable
Comment: I've used this product for several months now, and I'm happy to tell a bit about it.

Pros:
>Good range. I live in a multi-story home and keep my base on the 2nd floor. I am able to use my phone upstairs and down, and even doing laundry in the garage. It reads well through walls, and I have not once been disconnected.
>It's small--the base fits in my hand and both phone and base are easily portable. It's absolutely possible to pack it in along with your laptop and have free Skype phone service anywhere with accessible wi-fi. The set is lightweight and averagely solid. It has withstood some drops on hardwood floors. I liken the phone piece to the old late 90s Nokia cell phones both in construction and size. The phone piece is exactly 5" long and 3/4" thick. The base is even smaller: 3 1/3" long, 2 1/3" wide, less than an inch thick.
>I have been able to talk on the phone for over two consecutive hours without the phone dying on me. It is important however, to dock your phone whenever it isn't in use.
>Decent speaker. The speaker picks up better than my cell phone's and I can hear from across an average-sized room.
>Inexpensive; it is about a quarter the price of a phone with inbuilt wi-fi.

Cons:
>You cannot rely on the battery status given on the screen. I have not once seen it read anything other than full or empty in the 4 months that I have used it. The phone can and will die without any warning.
>I have noticed that I have trouble getting the base to read when I have it plugged into a USB hub, even though my hub plugs both into my CPU and the wall. There have been times the iPhone base would not accept anything but being plugged directly into my CPU.
>Sound quality is so-so. I find that the phone picks up certain background noises, like wind and plastic/paper bags, and blows the sound out of proportion. I hear voices fine, however. On the other end, I have recieved complaints from my friend that, while they can hear me fine even on speaker, the gain is just a bit high. Meanwhile, using Skype directly on a headset has been more successful, so it is Cisco's problem and not Skype's.
>Also previously noted: there is no volume control on the phone itself. You must control it from your computer.
>It has very little abilities for customization (though the handset has a very basic color screen) but it is also an older technology.

Summary: When it works its great....BUT
Comment: When the phone works it works very well. Clear sound on both ends. However, the big question is if it will work today. Furthermore, I wonder if Linksys has abandoned this product because the drivers need a lot of work and they are quite old.

Summary: Great, short battery life
Comment: Range is short and battery life is short. Don't buy. Not worth your money.
