Customer Rating: Summary: Unique but Excellent Comment: Several months ago, I made the decision to buy a pair of high-quality headphones. After doing some research, I found that the UE Super.fi 3 Studio Earphones were not only considered top-tier headphones but were also reasonably priced in the $70 dollar range.
One of the first things that has to be said is that the design of the earphones is unique. It does take some time to become accustomed to the way that they feel/fit in one's ears. Once you've figured out how you like to wear them, the sound quality is excellent.
A common complaint about these is that they lack a large depth of bass. These are not a pair of headphones you want if you are a bass-junkie; rather, they are suited for very balanced sound across the spectrum.
Overall, it is easy to see how some people may not like these earphones; but with a little bit of getting used to, they are the best pair of earphones that I have ever owned. I would highly recommend these earphones to any audiophile looking for the best way possible to listen to their music.
Customer Rating: Summary: Really disappointed Comment: I had high hopes for this product, because a product specialist had bought them and loved them. Unfortunately I did not have the same experience. It was nearly impossible to try the different sizes of the rubber tips- they simply did not fit on the main body of the earphone. I even had my brother try to get them on and he couldn't either. It also did not seem as if any tips fit my ears, though it was hard to tell because I couldn't get them all the way on.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great product Comment: I got this product after reading numerous reviews about the Shure and Etymonics earbuds that have similar reputations, and decided that these had better reviews overall. I originally got them for a trip, because I needed some good earbuds for an 18 hour plane ride. I have found that, if you take the time to figure out which size earcup works for you, they A) sound fantastic, and B) act like earplugs. I have worn them mowing the grass, and I can have the music volume extremely low, and can still barely hear the motor. People that have complained about these not having good bass response did not take the time to figure out which cup works best for their ear and are not inserting them properly. They really do have fantastic sound. I recommend reading the included instructions about how to put them in. It seems simple enough, but I thought it helped. One more thing, the reusable cups are great for normal use, but if you really want comfort, give the foam plugs a try. They're not as multi-use, but they really do sound great. Also, the cord is a little short, but you can get a replacement cord that plugs into the earbuds themselves from their website for about $20. The cord is also not the thin cheap stuff on a lot of other cords, this stuff is thick and durable. So then,
Positives:
- Noise Canceling
- Great sound
- Comfortable (I've worn them for hours at a time with no discomfort)
- Really well made
Negatives
- Takes time to get fitted properly
- Take more time that normal earbuds to put in
- Needs periodic earwax cleaning
I hope this helps, I think that these are the best buds you can get for the money.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great a blocking noise, but not so great at producing sound Comment: After poking around http://www.headphone.com/technical/product-measurements/ for a little while, I decided to ask for this pair of "studio earphones" for Christmas 2007 based on the Super.fi 3's favorable price/performance ratio. Upon receiving them and using them for a number of weeks, I have to say that I am disappointed; although they basically turn even the most crowded, busy, and loud workspace into near silence (when playing light music), the music that they do produce doesn't have the depth of sound that I'm used to. My other sound equipment consists of a set of Grado SR60s (which I simply adore), a Logitech Z-2300 THX-Certified 200-Watt 2.1 Speaker System (which is also top-notch!), and a Yamaha YHT-360 XM-Ready 5.1-Channel Home Theater System (Black) (which is great for movies but not so great for listening to music). All of these other pieces produce full, rich sound, leaving my Super.fi 3's to feel somewhat out of place in my life.
Observations:
(1) The packaging for the Super.fi 3's warns against prolonged use--something like an hour per day is the maximum that they suggest. In my opinion, this sort of defeats the purpose of these earphones; I'm only ever using them when I want to concentrate for an extended period of time in a location where it's loud OR when I'm on an airplane traveling for several hours at once. Because keeping my ears healthy is important to me, I'm worried about the extended use of these earphones.
(2) Walking around in a busy urban setting with these engaged is dangerous! For me, my ears play a vital role in situational awareness, so not being able to hear *any* environmental noise (something that these earphones do excel at) can be a handicap. You'll kindly note that I have not labeled this as a "con"--it wouldn't be fair to rate this device poorly because it was good at what it advertised! :)
(3) The aluminum case that comes with earphones is very sturdy, and I like it a lot.
Conclusion: I'd trade my Super.fi 3's in for a different pair of earphones with richer sound if possible, but for now, they'll do.
Customer Rating: Summary: No base whatsoever Comment: Just to warn everyone...great sound and fit the ear well with the numerous ear plugs provided. However, there is absolutely no bass...everything sounds as if you turned off the lowest frequencies on an equalizer. Very weird! I went on the internet and many others have had similar problems. Tried many adjustments but could not get any bass from the headphones and had to return them. I gave the product three stars because the remaining sound is quite good and the isolation from the ear plugs is excellent. There is just no bass and most music just doesn't sound right. I instead went with the v-moda vibe and they are excellent with great bass response and cheaper.
