I like this better than Norton System works which I used to use. Customer Rating: Summary: Destroyed my whole system Comment: I purchased McAfee Internet Security Suite to upgrade from McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007. I did a complete virus scan prior to installation. I followed the installation instructions to download from McAfee's site rather than load from the enclosed CD. Download went fine, but after re-boot nothing worked. No network connection, no printers installed, unable to do a Restore, unable to access any files in my personal directory, applications didn't work, etc. McAfee's online Help was terrible. Each time I contacted them, I had to start from the beginning -- what operating system?, how do you connect to the Internet?, what color is your hair? -- even though they acknowledged they had transcripts from previous help chats in front of them. The only solutions they offered made things worse. Long story - short, I ended up having to use my recovery CDs and lost years of email history, application upgrades, and access to all files in my personal directory. Coincidently, I loaded McAfee from the CD and then did a download to update and everything went fine. McAfee is cheap with the rebate, but it cost me a week of aggravation and lost sales (not to mention lost data). Customer Rating: Summary: Decent Security for Novices of PC Comment: This is a good suite, filled with the basic necessities for secure PC use. It does not seem to slow down my computer, but I have a screaming machine, so if you have an older machine or a lot of junk on your computer, it may not be as smooth running. Also, I have to say that there is a lot of free security software that will do the job as well, but you will have to download at least two programs to have the same security as the McAfee suite. So if you don't mind paying a yearly subscription price, the ease of use is worth it. Customer Rating: Summary: Not much of a techie, but I like the options Comment: I'm as paranoid as the next person about computer safety...okay maybe a little less, but my husband is little more. We've been long time Norton users and decided 'what the heck' a bit more security wouldn't hurt. The reality with such programs is when they're working you really don't notice them, as they keep the bad stuff out. The only time I ever really see my security is when there's some crazy tracking cookie detected, a scan is running or there are updates. That being said, I like McAfee's Backup and Restore option, not that I've had to use it yet (thankfully) but as I'm the one most likely to initiate the Blue Screen of Death, this is some added peace of mind. I'm still discovering how the filtering of offensive internet content works as there have been times when I type in, let's say, bird and get back a host of nude images on the google image page. As I said, I'm not the most active user of my security software, but I like the peace of mind it offers. Customer Rating: Summary: User-Friendly Protection for your PC Comment: The McAfee Internet Security Suite has some great features beyond just virus scanning. It has anti-phishing and anti-spyware protection. It also has firewall and system backup/restore software included. One thing I've found useful is when someone sends you a link via instant messaging programs, you can scan the link as well. I'm always skeptical to click on links and this is a good feature. You can also prevent security scans screens from taking over your computer when you are working in full screen. They will run in the background. It does slow down your computer a little bit, but has not been unbearable. You can install on up to three computers in your home - for a very good price. We only installed on one PC as we don't use the other one and the third is a Mac. If you need help from the McAfee folks, you will need to "chat" with them online (free), unless you want to pay for telephone support. This would be a downside for many... I would rate it 3 stars as-is and 4 stars if it would have included free telephone support. More Reviews
